Welcome to Tunnara Fishing Charters

What We Do
The mainstay of the fishing here in Cardiff is at anchor up-tideing to catch Cod, Bass, Rays, Conger Eels, Spurdogs, Smooth-hounds, and Bull huss.
You can keep the fish you catch within the regulations eg. size and season etc or release it for another day.
Whilst not being the fastest boat on the sea, with a maximum speed of 8.5kn, I take great pride in being the most stable and comfortable vessel instead, to bring an enjoyable experience away from the rat race.
Whether you are an experienced angler or not I’m here to help and make sure you have a fun day.
Regards Salvo
Our History
About The Boats
Tunnara
Tunnara was my first boat, a private not charter vessel, 24 ft clinker built larch on oak frames construction, ex-ships lifeboat with a Ford 5 cylinder diesel engine, top speed 7kn, approximate displacement 4.5 tons.
Tunnara II
Tunnara 2 was an ex-Watson lifeboat, 46 ft long, 4 meters beam and 1.5 meters draft, 25tons displacement, double diagonal construction of mahogany planking on oak frames, powered by twin perkins diesels 6354.
The boat was coded for 20 miles offshore for 12 anglers.
Tunnara III
Tunnara 2 was sold in 2017 to make way for the new vessel to carry on and improve the charter business.
The new vessel is the Boy Evin from Holyhead. She’s coded for 60 miles offshore, 54 ft in length of oak planking on oak frames, she’s a work of art. Drawing 2.3 meters 5.2 meters beam, powered by single Cummins diesel Nt855M displacement 60 tons.
Top speed 8.5kn as Kevin always used to say “living the dream Salvo boy”, well here we are, this boat is special to say the least she has a great history as a fishing trawler built in Crosshaven Harbour in Ireland.
Why Tunnara
If anyone wonders why the boat is called Tunnara, I have lived most of my life in Wales.
When I was a young boy, for six years, I lived in Siciliy in Italy where my parents were born, which I return to for a few weeks every year.
Here’s a few of the inspirations of why I named the boat; Tunnara. It is the Sicilian word for Tonnara which is the old method of catching tuna commercially over 2000 years old recently not practiced anymore due to over fishing.
My Story
About The Skipper
My name is Salvatore Fileccia, Salvo or Sal will do. I love Fishing and the Sea and have great respect for it.
I was born and raised in Cardiff but both my parents are from Sicily, my passion for fishing started at the age of 4 when my dad first took me fishing on Penarth Pier and when in Sicily off the jetty in Mondello.
I now hold RYA qualifications for VHF, First Aid, Sea Survival, Costal Skipper Certificates.
A Special Tribute To A Dear Friend
Kevin Haines – RIP
Kevin Richard Haines, my best friend, he was a brother to me.
For everyone that knew him, Kevin had the sea running through his veins. Fishing was his great passion, he would be fishing in all weathers and seasons to catch the big one.
Sadly, he passed away tragically on the 11th of August 2013 whilst on a fishing/camping trip at Rhossili ledges. He was a very well respected fisherman on board the boat, and it’s also thanks to him that the boat and I have earned respect in what we do.
He will be sadly missed, we will never forget him.
One of his famous sayings ‘LIVING THE DREAM’ salvo boy.
Here are some pictures of Kevin doing the things he loves.
